If you go down to the Lowther woods today, or at least deep into the gardens, you may be in for a big surprise. For somewhere beyond the old rose garden, deep in the mixed woodland, you will now find the largest outdoor playground in the country – the lost castle.

Created by the Curious Adventure Play company, the lost castle is a great big wooden fort with a zipwire, a sandpit, turrets, towers and dungeons – a paradise for children young and old. Lowther Castle is open 10-5pm daily. For more information, visit www.lowthercastle.org
