The stage for events
Lowther Park is the largest outdoor events venue in the Lake District. From the huge grassy stage and seating bank near the river, to the backdrop of the Lowther Castle or among the ancient trees of the old deer park, nature and 21st century facilities combine to make Lowther a spectacular but informal stage for events by day or night. Lowther has been the venue for many memorable parties and events during its long history, from entertaining Wordsworth, a state visit by the Kaiser in 1895 – the park was enlarged and some roads were laid especially for his visit – over 35 years of hosting the Lowther Horse Driving Trials and Country Fair, and numerous smaller events. In 2009, Lowther hosted 29 events, many for charity, from a Sustrans cycle ride to car rallies on a five-mile long private tarmac road, from the World Sheepdog Trials and the sell-out music event Kendal Calling which will return on 31 July to 2 August 2010. Tickets now on sale - click on the Kendal Calling button on the left.
Easily accessible from the M6, yet also in the Lake District National Park, Lowther is a unique place capable of hosting 20,000 visitors a day.
